Klee’s rerun banner is almost around the corner in Update 2.8. This will be her second rerun banner after her first which was in Version 1.6- ‘Golden Apple Archipelago’. If you’re planning on pulling on her or wondering whether you should, keep reading as this might be of some help.
Klee, the Sparkknight is the second 5-star character released in the game and her lore dictates her as the strongest knight in Mondstadt. As a playable character, however, despite her heavy damage potential, she’s clunky to play and use effectively as a main DPS or as a sub-DPS. Below we list where she went wrong.
Why Klee is Faulty in Genshin Impact?
Klee is a pyro catalyst user. Pyro is the strongest element in the game and as a catalyst user, Klee should have a constant elemental application, elemental damage, and elemental reaction abilities. As a catalyst user, she should also theoretically be a ranged character who can take down enemies from a distance. However, all that’s just theory. Below we list some of her flaws that make her clunky and difficult to play effectively-
- Despite being a catalyst user, Klee has a painfully short range, even smaller than some of the melee characters. This effectively just makes her a melee catalyst user.
- Contrary to her trailer which hyped up her AoE Pyro damage, her AoE damage is too random, small, and often not reliable.
- Her attack animations are slow- so much so that she can only do 3 passives in one normal attack combo where other cataylst users do 5.
- Despite her slow attack animations, her Pyro application is too quick- to the point that they don’t stay long enough for consistent reactions with other elements.
- Her charged attack has an extremely small range- it can almost be called point-blank range- beyond which enemies don’t take damage.
- Her elemental burst is unreliable for AoE Pyro damage- her explosions from the Humpty Dumpties miss more often than not.
- Even as a catalyst user, she’s extremely fragile and has low health. She can get one-shot by enemies you don’t expect to stand up to your main DPS.
- Because of her short range as a catalyst and her short height, she can easily get surrounded by mobs due to her small sprint. Once surrounded she can get easily staggered by enemy attacks that in turn interrupt her own attacks which ultimately reduces her overall damage.
What Can Be Fixed?
Klee’s gameplay can be fixed by giving her a longer range or longer Pyro application duration. Both of these will instantly make her more viable- since her damage is already quite strong. She has a lot of potential as a DPS or a support DPS- her kit can be adjusted to fit one of these roles better. With a longer Pyro application, she can enable or allow more strong reactions like Vaporise or Melt consistently. A longer-range solves her problem of being squishy and makes her more viable against crowds.
If you’re still planning to pull on Klee, we recommend a shielder in the party- that solves half of her problems. A character like Xinqiu or Diona is great since both of their elements can occasionally trigger strong reactions with her Pyro attacks. Additionally, both of their kits allow for damage reduction through shields and even healing to keep your adorable little bomb-enthusiast alive on the playground of Genshin Impact. Happy fish blasting on the upcoming update if you do get her!
