Genshin Impact has a huge roster of amazing characters now and surprisingly it has more 5-star units than 4-stars as of Update 2.8. A majority of Genshin Impact’s 5-star units can be used as DPS units but of course, they still have their own roles and functions to consider. Before heading into Update 3.0 Sumeru and having our first Dendro characters, we thought it would be a good idea to rank some of the current 5-stars based on their roles as DPS.
5-Star DPS in Genshin Impact Tier List
A DPS character is one who deals a ton of damage compared to other characters. In this article, we are going to rank the 5-star Genshin characters based on how well they fulfill the role of the main DPS. A main DPS is your main and strongest unit in the party and the one you use most on-field to take down enemies and fight battles.
S-Tier
In S-Tier, we always have characters that are best suited for the role they are being ranked for. The following characters will make damage dealing a child’s play as these are godly DPS units. They are the strongest in their own right and are unsurpassed in terms of consistent damage by other units in the game.
- Hu Tao
- Ayaka
- Ganyu
- Xiao
- Eula
A-Tier
In A-Tier we usually have characters that do more than the role they are being ranked for. This time, however, it’s different. Genshin Impact has a ton of dedicated DPS characters and while the following characters are best used in DPS roles like the S-Tier ones, they still fall short of being S-Tier. The following characters all have one or two minor factors in their kits that prevent them from being S-Tier.
- Itto
- Ayato
- Childe
Itto for example is Geo and thus non-reactive with the other elements. He also needs Geo teammates to bring out his full damage even though he’s a powerhouse on his own. Ayato only uses his E as his main source of damage and his Q is best used for support or sub-DPS. Childe is tricky to play and requires skill to master which holds him back.
B-Tier
In B-Tier we have characters that fill more than the role they are being ranked for- while still being impressively good at their roles.
- Raiden Shogun
- Yae Miko
- Diluc
- Yelan
With the exception of Diluc and perhaps even Yae Miko to an extent, all the above characters can be used as support or sub-DPS. Raiden and Yelan are in fact best used as supports or sub-DPS rather than main DPS. Yae Miko is of the Electro element which holds back her damage and Diluc has long been surpassed as the strongest Pyro-DPS.
C-Tier
In C-tier, we have characters who fill niche roles in the Tier List. While these are of course decent DPS units, they are only good in specific situations or are just generally underwhelming in comparison. These DPS units are often even surpassed by 4-star C6 DPS units if they are built well enough.
Klee and Yoimiya have infamously flawed kits. Albedo is Geo so that puts him at a disadvantage. Keqing is weak compared to the other DPS users. Jean on the other hand is a great unit because she’s an all-rounder but this also means she isn’t the best at any of her roles.
D-Tier
In D-Tier we have units that’ll need to be replaced as soon as possible once dedicated units are obtained. These characters are better off not used in the DPS role. In this list, we have the first two Archons of the game and they are still best used as supports even though they do provide acceptable DPS.
- Zhongli
- Venti
They’ve been included in this list because many early game players might be fooled into thinking that these are great DPS units just because there were plenty of DPS showcases of these characters during the time of their release.
