With the devs officially announcing on Twitter that the update is going to be delayed, there has been general gloominess in the Genshin Impact fandom. Hoyoverse isn’t sure when things will get back to normal, and players can only speculate the reasons.
Why has the Genshin Impact 2.7 Update been Postponed?
As the game has had a relatively stable release schedule up until now, it is quite a shock for players to hear that the devs are postponing it, attributing it to “project progress”. While they have promised to provide more information to players as soon as it is available, players seem to believe that this is due to the Shanghai COVID-19 lockdowns that have affected the game’s release.

While the above reason was not mentioned in the tweet, it is widely speculated to be the truth as a message sent by Hoyoverse shows essential supplies the company donated to its local communities, accompanied by the message “although COVID delayed our schedule, it won’t stop the warmth and emotions within us”—which implies that the real cause is the pandemic. However, it’s worth an applaud to see Hoyoverse being generous to its communities.
Hoyoverse has previously announced that the standard livestream for update 2.7 would be postponed and they’ve been pretty silent on their Twitter since, which is why it isn’t such a surprise for their more ardent fans that the update is postponed. With the escalating COVID-19 situation in China, it’s very unfortunate for those stuck in lockdown and there are definitely more important things to consider instead of a game update being released internationally.
Genshin Impact is still doing pretty well as per the 2.6 update, which introduced a lot of fresh content for players last month. Hopefully, the situation will improve and things will be back to normal in Shanghai for the devs to recover and get back on track as quickly as possible.
